CTE

Career and Technical Education

Career and Technical Education (CTE) is an integral part of the comprehensive secondary school program in Carteret County. The mission of CTE is to empower all students to be successful citizens, workers, & leaders in a global economy. CTE provides course offerings that meet student needs, interests, abilities, and aspirations. The availability of specific courses is determined by response to opportunities for employment, advanced education, and practical life application.

Middle school students may participate in exploratory courses in business and information technologies, coding, Project Lead the Way (PLTW), and Paxton Patterson College & Career Ready Labs (CCR). All middle schools offer an exploratory option using the Career & College Ready Labs. The Middle School Career Development Coordinator (CDC) serving CCPS is Lisa Hensley.

High school courses are offered in the areas of agriculture, business and information technology, family and consumer sciences, marketing technology, technology education, and trade and industrial education. Each high school has a Career Development Facilitator to support the school-to-career connection and facilitate business alliance activities. Croatan High School has Karen Davis, East High School has Pamela Roberson and West High School has Mikie Broadhurst.

Allison Dees- CTE Director

I am Allison Dees, Carteret County Public School System's Career and Technical Education Director. I have served in this role since 2012. Prior to my experience as a Director, I served as a Career Development Coordinator (CDC) and Business Education teacher for Croatan High School and West Carteret for 15 years. I was fortunate to stay home with my children when they were young. This showed me that I needed to work in a field that I was passionate about, education! I have been a long-time member of the NC Association of Career and Technical Education (NCACTE) where I served as the Legislative Committee Chair for 4 years and currently hold the position of Past President of the NC ACTE Administration Division. I hold a BS degree in Marketing Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a MA degree in School Executive Leadership from Gardner-Webb University. I enjoy spending free time on the beach and with family and friends.
